Ask us about Model United Nations (MUN) or Model European Parliament (MEP) participation, or find another program focused on human rights, peace research, and global leadership.
I have visited over 45 countries and have experience living abroad in Italy, France, Guatemala, Mexico and Norway. My extensive travel, education and experiences has fostered a deep appreciation for global diversity and civic responsibility. I have a rich background in global citizenship and I am excited to see a sense of global citizenship and international mindedness grow among my students.
We all have a starting place, here is mine.

Dr. Allbright’s global citizenship education and international mindedness journey
Participating in the International Summer School of Oslo program was a milestone in my life. For the first time this really broadened my international academic and social experience. Interacting with students at the undergraduate and graduate level, representing over 100 countries ranging from mature teenagers to students in their 70s and beyond, enriched my life tremendously.
The dynamic exchanges of ideas that took place all contributed to my transition into a globally and culturally sensitive person. Fellow students and faculty gave me a stronger sense of global belonging and purpose. The rich diversity represented in the student body, helped me embrace a sense of world-citizenship. I no longer only identified as an Oklahoma from the United States, but saw myself interconnected with the world at large. The interpersonal and cross-cultural learning that took place at ISS of Oslo, provided me the opportunity to see new perspectives and understand what direct role I can play in our world’s future. I went from being a passive observer to a person of action.
Today, as a teacher, I try to bring the same global and cultural sensitivity within the classroom and into conversations through this form of global citizenship education. It is a great privilege to continue building on the lessons I learned years ago. Above all, the ISS Oslo program, and specifically my participation in international politics, Norwegian life, society and history, human rights, and peace research, made me a more caring and internationally minded and engaged person.
Since then I have gone on to earn several degrees, including a PhD. As a historian, I have worked with various indigenous communities, World War II veterans, among others who have much to share regarding their perception of the world and their communities. I cannot represent them well in my writings and teachings if I haven’t yet listened to their stories.

Cultivate internationally mindedness, partake in our global citizenship programs
Interested in finding a global citizenship program and becoming more internationally minded? Why not MUN? Students have to get into the mindset of other nations and act and negotiate on the behalf of the country they are representing. It forces students to look at global issues through another lens, one that isn’t their own nation or nation’s interest and find commonalities and compromises.
